I go by Satoshi24, named in honor of Satoshi Nakamoto, and my Bitcoin Prayer is a tribute for everyone who believes in Bitcoin.
Bitcoin Prayer
Our Bitcoin, created by Satoshi,
Hallowed be thy address.
Thy bull market come,
Thy HODL be done, in the Bitcoin world as it is in wallets.
Give us this day our daily hash,
And forgive us our unbought DIPs,
As we forgive those who spread FUD against us.
And lead us not into shitcoin temptation,
But deliver us from FIAT.
For thine is the Bitcoin kingdom, the hash rate, and the freedom, forever and ever.
Amen.
What It Means
New to Bitcoin? Here’s a simple guide to the words in the prayer. It will help you understand and explore the Bitcoin Whitepaper! Additionally, the terms are grouped for easier learning.
Spiritual Terms
- Bitcoin kingdom: Bitcoin’s dominance as the original and most trusted cryptocurrency, leading the world of digital money.
- Blockchain: A digital record of all Bitcoin transactions. It’s safe and not controlled by any one person or group.
- Satoshi Nakamoto: The person (or group) who created Bitcoin in 2008 and started it in 2009. Nobody knows who he is, but his vision of financial freedom inspires me – that’s why I go by Satoshi24 in his honor!
Market Terms
- Address: A special code, like a bank account number, used to send and receive Bitcoins. Each address is unique to your wallet.
- Bull market: When Bitcoin’s price rises due to high demand and positive sentiment among investors.
- HODL: A fun word from the Bitcoin community. It means keeping your Bitcoins and not selling them, even if the price changes. It comes from a 2013 typo of “hold.”
- Bitcoin world: The group of people who share a passion for Bitcoin, believe in its freedom, and use it, mine it, or hold it. Learn more in my 10 Holy Commandments of Bitcoin.
- DIP: When Bitcoin’s price drops. It’s a good time to buy. “Unbought DIPs” means missing those low prices.
- FUD: Short for Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. It means people spreading bad news about Bitcoin to scare others.
Technical Terms
- Wallet: A software app (like on your phone) or a hardware device, like Trezor, where you keep your Bitcoins safe. Only a hardware wallet is safe for long-term storage because it protects against hackers.
- Hash: A calculation computers do to check Bitcoin transactions and keep the network safe.
- Hash rate: The power of computers (miners) that keep the Bitcoin network safe. More power means a safer network. Try my Solo Mining Calculator to see how your hashrate affects mining chances!
- Shitcoin: A term for cryptocurrencies that people think are worthless or fake, unlike Bitcoin.
- FIAT: Paper money from governments, like dollars or euros. Bitcoin fans don’t like it because it’s controlled by banks.
- Freedom: Financial independence and the ability to use money without banks or governments. This is the main idea of Bitcoin, which I explain in What Is Bitcoin?.
